Trauma-informed life coaching with Karen Tudor Sheriff

Those of us who have experienced the loss of a child or children probably identify strongly with trauma or even PTSD. People who have lived with a loved one who is an addict or even be in self-recovery from addiction, likely understand a similar traumatic existence. What I would like to introduce you to is Post Traumatic Growth.

Post-traumatic growth proposes that in the struggle to cope with one’s trauma, and in addition to experiencing negative outcomes, positive personal changes are possible (Tedeschi & Calhoun, 2004). It is theorized that post-traumatic growth can manifest over five domains: self-perception, relating to others, new possibilities, appreciation of life, and existential change (Tedeschi & Calhoun, 2004). Post-traumatic growth has been identified in many populations of individuals who have experienced a traumatic event (Helgeson, Reynolds, & Tomich, 2006). Understanding how individuals experience post-traumatic growth is important in guiding holistic support (Tedeschi & Calhoun, 1995).

Conclusions: In addition to experiencing grief, bereaved parents, recovering addicts and those chronically depressed may experience aspects of post-traumatic growth, and a variety of factors have been identified as potential facilitators and barriers of these changes. The findings may have implications for support services (e.g. expert-by-experience services).

Meet Karen

As a certified life coach, mom of four – two of whom preceded me in death, grandmother and recovered addict, I would like the opportunity to show you that there is definitely “joy in the morning.”

When my first son died at age 12, I didn’t know where to turn and ended up in drug rehab. When my second son died violently at age 31, I had only been out of my second rehab for almost 15 months. This time, I understood I needed serious support and help. I had trauma therapy, experienced in-patient care for PTSD and received EMDR from an amazing therapist.

While I worked in the mortgage banking field for 20 plus years, my journey led me to eventually seek more education and become a certified life coach. I come to you with over 26 years of combined experience, offering counsel to bereaved mothers, as well as those in recovery from addictions. I do see clients with a variety of other issues, with trauma-informed coaching being my emphasis.

My Youngest son died tragically in September of 2019. My daughter made arrangements for me to meet with Karen for life coaching. I have to say I felt an instant connection with Karen. She has given me tools that, with God's help, give me the ability to live and walk through the darkest time of my life. I am eternally grateful.

Being a single father of three and learning how to live again, Karen came in at the right time and moment. She opened my eyes and heart to a new way of thinking and tackling challenges, one emotion at a time. I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants a life change for the better.

Simply put, an actual miracle occurred when I made a personal decision to seek help through life coaching. Karen became that valuable first step on my path to self discovery. Because she gives me permission to explore in a safe and caring space, I can reclaim superpowers I had long since abandoned.
